What Does the Name "Digital Soup" Mean?

Soup is typically made up of a whole bunch of potentially unrelated food items dumped into big pot. digitalsoup.org is essentially the same concept but applied to digital content. (Specifically stuff related to me, Tim)

How did DigitalSoup come about?

I first started playing with linux my sophomore year of college on a PC I had nicknamed "digitalsoup." Despite numerous linux distribution changes (Madrake -> Mandrivia -> Fedora -> Ubuntu -> CentOS) and several hardware changes, the name DigitalSoup has stuck.

Why ".org"?

When I first came up with the name digitalsoup, all of the common top level domains were taken (.com, .net, and .org). As a result, I wrote a script to query the whois database daily and send me a text message when one of them freed up. After 3 years of waiting, ".org" became available and I grabbed it!
